Sunday, August 17, 2014

Authorities say a suspect was shot and wounded early Sunday in a police-involved shooting in the Bronx.

Shortly before 4 a.m., officers on patrol responded to 911 calls of an assault in progress inside of 2741 Sedgwick Avenue.

Upon arrival, police say two officers encountered a 34-year-old man entering the lobby from the stairwell area, assaulting a 32-year-old woman with a knife.

According to police, the officers ordered the suspect to drop his weapon, and the suspect refused to comply, continuing to assault the woman.

The officers each fired once, striking the suspect in the torso.

The suspect is hospitalized in stable condition.

The knife was recovered at the scene.
